Only one thing to add. For some movies, at first it did not display the image. I saw this complaint for some others as well. I went to iTunes->Settings(cmd + ,)->Playback and then i checked the "Play movies using standard definition version" checkbox. Now it works smoother then a pedophile in church. I wanted this codec to be able to play movies from front row. If for some reason, you need another player, i recommend instead of vlc to use "MPlayer OSX Extended" which is my player of choice in linux.
It stops screen saver, has subtitles, can remember last played movie and position(have to check it though) plus lots of other nifty settings you will like. It needs no external codecs say but their own additional pack for some less used movie formats.
